Damat Poha

BM # 5 Day  4

Poha or pressed rice is a very quick and simple breakfast. We normally make it with a combination of potatoes or sometimes veggies like peas and  carrots…but this version was totally new for me.Its a Maharastrian style speciality from Kolhapur. This is the first time I tried these and was wondering how they will turn out…..but trust me they were yum!...a combination of sweet and savoury…the mild crunchiness of onions and the aroma and flavour of coconut ……all these made this dish really one of its kind, you got to try it to know what I am talking about!!

Place them in a pan.making a well in the centre.
For tempering heat oil and go in the order of tempering ingredients, when you add onions sauté them till light pink, after that you add the lemon juice and the rest of the spices.
The tempering is ready keep it for a few minutes to cool.
Sprinkle coconut water on the poha.
Now add the tempering masala ..put this into the well.
Sprinkle grated coconut and coriander leaves.
Slowly start pressing this mixture with your hands, mixing everything gently.(this procedure is called “dungar”)
Make sure all is mixed well.transfer to your serving bowl, microwave for 1 minute and garnish with coconut and coriander.
(if you don’t wish to microwave you could steam it for a few minutes to make it warm)
**In case you don’t have  metkut powder you could also use malgapodi powder.
