Kaale Chane ka Khatta from Himachal Pradesh

BM # 20   Day 2

Yesterday , I made a special dish from the Kangra Dham, since Dham has so many dishes, I have decided to make one more dish from this beautiful valley. For today, the second day of daals I have made KhattaKhatta, means sour.So the basic flavor of the dish is slightly on the sour side, which if you don't want can be mellowed..In the valley they make  meat also in the same way.

1cup................ boiled kale chane
1tsp................. coriander seeds
½ tsp............... ginger, finely chopped
1/2 tsp............. garlic, finely chopped
2........................onions, paste
2tbsp.............. radish , grated
2tbsp.............. carrot, grated
2tbsp.............. pumpkin, grated
¼ tsp.............. red chilly pwd
¼ tsp.............. garam masala
¼ tsp............... turmeric pwd
1 tsp................ kitchen king masala
1tsp................ channa masala
1 tsp ................mango pwd
Salt to taste
Heat oil.
Add coriander seeds,garlic and ginger.
Add onion paste and saute’.
Add the grated radish, carrot and pumpkin.
Cook till they shrink and oil seperates.
Add spices and ½ cup water.Let cook till all the water has dried .
Add channa and mango pwd.
Saute’ this on full flame and then add ½ cup water again.
Simmer for 5-7 minutes.

The Kaale Chane ka Khatta turned out super delicious, I really wish you guys could taste it.The flavor was unbelievable !!The veggies gave thickness to the gravy, besides adding to the nutrients. The kitchen king masala and the channa masala both added terrific flavor. Absolute must try !!

  8. Looks like the Kangra valley dishes have grated pumpkin in many of their dishes, even yesterday's dal had it. Looks awesome. I'm loving these dishes as they are totally new to me.
