Bha -et is the Sindhi name for porridge. made from broken wheat this is easily available in the market. You get finely milled, and then you get coarsely milled. When we make this fine variety, and in a semi liquid consistency we call it Bha-et. While using the coarse one we make it dry which is called baat .Sindhi is a language where the pronunciations are typical and at times tough .Any way lets not get into that ..bha-et in Sindhi homes is made with cumin seed and whole black pepper, somehow I never liked that and I have changed my version , which is appreciated by everyone. So for this week end cooking it is Bha-et with my buddies Valli and Champa.
1/2 cup finely milled broken wheat
2 tbsp ghee
1/2 tsp cardamom powder
sugar to taste
Heat ghee in a pressure cooker.
Add the broken wheat and roast till pink.
Add cardamom powder and enough water for it to cook in.
Pressure cook for 1 whistle and then simmer for 5-7 minutes.
Let the pressure drop , open the pressure cooker and add sugar.
Stir well on full flame and serve hot.
The consistency of the Bha-et is on the thicker side.
It is the diluted with milk.
This is a very healthy breakfast and is served to older generation as well as the babies. The sugar can be omitted and substituted with dates, making it even more healthier.
At times I add nuts to this Bha-et and it is more like an Indian dessert.
