Theme of the week: Healthy Bars and Biscuits
The last in the series of bars are these protein packed bars. I made these bars specially for my son who has protein shake regularly. Adding protein powder to these bars was a treat for him. He wanted a good layer of chocolate on them, so I melted some cooking chocolate in a double boiler and poured on top. The bars very healthy, delicious and chocolaty. One bar for breakfast and you are done!
Protein packed bars
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup vanilla protein powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/8 tsp salt
1 cup quick rolling oats
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup nuts and raisins,blue berries, cranberries
1 cup melted dark chocolate
Preheat oven to 180deg C.
Grease a 9"square tin.
Roast the oats and pulse them lightly.
In a bowl combine brown sugar, flour. oats, baking soda and salt.
Mix in the protein powder and nuts and raisins.
Add butter and using your hands press the mix into the pan.
Bake for 35- 40 minutes.
Once cooled spread a layer of melted chocolate and let set.
Cut into squares .
