The United States of America, commonly referred to as the United States, America, and sometimes the States.
We have traveled a lot and are now nearly at the end of this marathon.Its the alphabet U today and I chose United States of America.
The United States of America (U.S.A.), commonly referred to as the United States (U.S.), America, and sometimes the States, is a federal republic consisting of 50 states and a federal district. As a nation formed of immigrants from varied backgrounds, the food of the United States closely resembles the history of its people.
To define the cuisine of the United States, is a combination of its history, the ancestors of the people and their homelands, but despite the variegated roots, a distinctly American cuisine has been formed. The culture and cuisine of the United States, though influenced by so many other cultures, has become its own unique hodgepodge that is not found anywhere else in the world.This is one country where one can find ingredients from all countries. I was in awe when Mireille took me to Trader Joes and some more stores where I saw some rare veggies and ingredients.
Mainstream American cuisine is similar to that in other Western countries. Wheat is the primary cereal grain. Traditional American cuisine uses indigenous ingredients, such as turkey, potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, squash, and maple syrup, which were consumed by Native Americans .
For a layman American food is Pizza, burgers, hot dogs, coke, but on my trip to this country I realized how diverse the cuisine was. Being a vegetarian it was difficult to relish different cuisines, but my cousins made sure that we could go around and try as much new stuff as possible.I was particularly loving all those cakes and pastries. It was fun being with Mireille and Usha and we relished Dosas in New York. Eating breakfast at a diner was very interesting and that inspired me to serve an American Breakfast .
The style of breakfast has carried over to the US though continental breakfast foods. A full breakfast in this country often consists of eggs, meat such as bacon, ham, sausage, scrapple, pork roll, spam, steak or country fried steak, and grits or fried potatoes such as hash browns or home fries. Accompanying the meal might be toasted white, wheat or rye bread, English muffins, bagels, waffles, pancakes, oatmeal, cinnamon rolls, biscuits, fruit or fruit juice and beverages such as coffee or tea.
It is often referred to as a "country breakfast", "Sunday breakfast", or a "big breakfast". Well I could only do a vegetarian breakfast so here is the...
Vegetarian American Big Breakfast.
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup milk
1 tb sp sugar
1 tb sp oil
1/2 tsp salt
1 tb sp baking powder
Mix flour, baking powder, salt and sugar with a whisk.
Add milk along with oil.
Set aside for 10 minutes.
Pour a ladle full of batter on a non stick griddle.
Cook on very slow flame , else adjust the flame by switching on or off the gas.
Flip over and cook.
Remove when it turns golden.
Serve with honey, fruits, cream.
